Is remaking old films a good idea?
Frankly speaking, I do not practically know much about remade movies. However, I’ll try to analyse this question.
If think logically, remaking an old movie has its advantages.
For example, remaking old movies gives a new generation an opportunity to get acquainted with the old masterpieces.
Moreover, directors do not need to work hard on the creation of the new idea, they can easily take the old movie and on its basis whether create a completely new production or make a new version of the old story with better technical quality and more thought out plot.
In addition, remaking films can be a pleasant gift for the older generation giving them a chance to feel nostalgic.
Nevertheless when I started to think about this topic, I realized that I’m more of a traditional person. I respect traditions and love them with all my heart. That’s why remade movies are not something that I hurry to watch. I’ve noticed that I tend to be skeptical about them and have prejudgement.
For instance, I can say that I do not like new versions of James Bond movies, as I watched the old ones with my grandpa and I do not really want to try to compare different productions of this highly acclaimed work of art.
Also, no matter how much I liked “Suicide Squad” I felt offended by that attempt to make Joker, no offense to Jared Leto. But I was resentful that someone even tried to play the role of Heath Ledger. (Joaquin Phoenix do not count-he did his own version) Because Heath is just my legend and the most perfect and suitable actor for Joker in my opinion. No one can replace him and if someone tries, I’ll pretend I do not see it.
However, to my surprise I managed to find remakes that I really enjoyed. Three versions of “Pride and Prejudice”: “Pride and Prejudice” (a 1980 BBC television serial), “Pride and Prejudice” (starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen) and an extraordinary fresh version — “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”

In general, this can be a good idea, but maybe it’s not for me. I guess I just have a thing for an old cinematography...
To sum up, for such capricious, fussy, petulant and moody viewers as I am, remaking old, classic and, most importantly, original pieces of art is, in my mind, like skating on thin ice.
